Winter Color Scheme
March 11, 2019In my blog, I am trying various color schemes to expand my painting vocabulary. To that end, I am selecting a different color scheme/limited palette each week and basing three little 8 x 6 paintings upon that color palette.
This week, I tried a Cerulean Blue, Yellow Ochre color scheme. I thought I better get in my favorite winter color scheme before winter is over! I first noticed this beautiful color scheme when I was a child riding the school bus. I loved-even then-the beautiful blue sky and reflections on the white snow alongside the tufts of dried yellow ochre plants sticking through the snow. The colors I used for the following three paintings are primarily Cerulean Blue, Yellow Ochre, Titanium White and a bit of my dark mixture. My dark mixture is made up of Ultramarine Blue, Alizarin Crimson and Cadmium Yellow. I premix this keep it on hand, as it is a livelier dark than black.
