Colors for Spring Blossoms!

I am keeping track of the colors I use for my paintings so that I will be able to reproduce the color scheme as if I want to use it for another painting.  I was doing three paintings for each color scheme, but am just going to do one now-as I don’t always want to do three paintings with the same color scheme in a row!

For this painting I used-

Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Yellow, Dioxazine Purple, Pthalo Blue, Pthalo Green ad Titanium White

Only Ultramarine Blue and Cadmium Orange

In my blog, I am trying various color schemes to expand my painting vocabulary.  To that end, I am selecting a different color scheme/limited palette each week and basing three little 8 x 6   or 10 x 8paintings upon that color palette.  If you have any suggestions of color palettes I should try, please email me at nanvenhuizen@gmail.com. ( I’d love to have a comment section on this page, but I haven’t yet figured out how to do that!)

For these three paintings, I used only two colors-Ultramarine Blue and Cadmium Orange-with white, of course!  Though I don’t think I’ll use this color scheme very much, but painting these three paintings was a useful exercise.  I tried to use the blue in the shadow areas and the orange in the sunlit areas.  It, therefore, made me very aware of sunlight and shade.

This week, I extended my experimentation  with Pthalo Blue.  This time, though, I used Yellow Ochre as the primary color I’m using with this.

(I used a small amount of Alizarin Crimson mixed with the Pthalo Blue and the Yellow Ochre to make my dark color.)

I actually far prefer the mixture of Pthalo Blue/ Yellow Ochre to last week’s combo of Pthalo Blue/ Cadmium Yellow, as the Pthalo Blue/Yellow Ochre makes  a much gentler green.  Still the brighter combination would be useful for some paintings.

Colors I used this week-

Pthalo Blue, Yellow Ochre, a little bit of Alizarin Crimson, and Titanium White
